Upper Room Worship Center is a non-denominational church in beautiful Castlewood, Virginia. The pastor’s name is Sam Hubbard. The church began it's first service on October 9th, 2016 by pastor Hubbard. The church has had numerous prophetic words spoken over it over the years and continues to operate in the guidance of the Holy Ghost. Through this guidance, many people have been saved, re-dedicated their lives, healed, delivered and advanced in their spiritual lives. The church operates in the spiritual gifts and fire of the Holy Ghost. The singing varies from old time songs to new contemporary songs and everything between. This church prefers Spirit led songs rather than just one certain category of Christian music. We strive to make all feel welcome and loved at URWC. Our church family is believing to continue to see people saved by accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and that we will continue to see the incredible works of God through the power of the Holy Ghost. Our vision is to engage families of all ages, cultures, and generations to glorify Jesus by living for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
One of the most important parts of the ministry of Upper Room Worship Center is our youth. The blessing of having our children learning and growing in the knowledge of God is promising hope for the next generation. As the church continues to grow, so does our youth - and we don't mean just in number! These young people are being equipped to begin their journey and callings in their lives. We believe God is using this ministry to produce tomorrow's pastors, evangelists, worship leaders, teachers and so much more!
We don't believe a church family is confined to a space between four walls. URWC celebrates our youth and our church family by taking fun trips to enjoy the blessing of fellowship!
At URWC, we love to enjoy life. Life is a precious gift of God which is meant to be lived to the fullest with the joy of the Lord! We love to fellowship at events where we host games, activities and more! As Christians, we have more to celebrate now than we ever had before! We are full of life because of Jesus Christ!
Pastor Sam Hubbard, originally from Wise, Va, first heard the call to ministry from the Lord in 2006 as a teenager. He began preaching and eventually was considered assistant pastor at two different churches over the years, learning and growing spiritually, before entering the call of pastor. During this time of evangelism, Sam met his beautiful wife, Ann, at a church service. Ann had been traveling to sing in churches across our area before the two met. They married in 2012 and have worked together in ministry ever since. They welcomed their first born son, Isaiah, in 2014. In 2016, Sam stepped out on faith to begin a ministry having no building, a small amount of equipment, and hardly any money. Sam was led to call the new ministry "Upper Room Worship Center" and moved into the current location in Castlewood, Virginia. Since those humble beginnings, the ministry has grown abundantly. Prophetic words were spoken over the ministry and has been coming to pass over the years. Sam allows the Holy Ghost to direct and guide the services at URWC and preaches in the anointing and fire of the Holy Ghost. God has done amazing things at this house of worship and He is just getting started! People of all ages are experiencing the power of God and learning of His Word. After 5 years of UWRC's existence, the fire of the Holy Ghost is burning even greater and the future of this ministry is brighter than ever before!
What We Believe These core values define who we are and what matters the most at Upper Room Worship Center. We are passionate about our values because they drive this ministry and guide everything we do to achieve our purpose.
We believe in the Bible as God's only inspired and authoritative revelation of Himself to man in written form. And it declares His design and plan for mankind. The Bible, God’s Word, alone dictates what we believe and practice. The Bible is our life manual and tells us God’s Will for our lives. God’s Word and the leading of the Holy Ghost are the foundation for all that we are and do -- preaching, teaching, worship, and service. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works” 2 Peter 1:20-21 “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. Isaiah 43:10-11 “Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour” Matthew 28:19 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” Luke 3:21-22 “Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.” 1 John 5:7 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ His eternal existence. John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” His virgin birth. Matthew 1:18 “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” His sinless life. 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” His miracles. Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” His voluntary death as the only sacrifice for the sin of the world. 1 John 2:2 “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” His bodily resurrection from the dead. Luke 24:39 “Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.” His ascension to the right hand of God as our intercessor. Hebrews 4:14 “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.” and His future return in glory to rapture His church.1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
We believe in the new birth as the only means of receiving eternal life. The new birth involves a cleansing and deliverance from the penalty and power of sin. It is effectuated through faith in Jesus Christ and repentance from sin. John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” 1 Peter 1:18-19 “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot”
We believe in the baptism with the Holy Ghost as an endowment of power for all believers, and the physical evidence of the baptism with the Holy Ghost is speaking in tongues as experienced on the Day of Pentecost and referenced throughout Acts and the Epistles. Acts 2:4 “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:38-39 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” Acts 19:6 “And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.” Ephesians 5:18 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit” This baptism results in a deeper expression of spiritual fruit. (Galatians 5:22-23) This baptism results in a greater growth and power in our spiritual lives. (Peter in the book of Acts) This baptism brings a genuine manifestation of spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12) This baptism results in a more effective prayer life. Romans 8:26-27 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
We believe in a dance that is not provocative, but is a celebration brought on by the presence of God and is a manifestation of the Holy Ghost. Exodus 15: 20-21 “And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.” 2 Samuel 6:14-15 “And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.”
We believe in living holy as directed by the Bible. Spiritual growth involves daily dying to sin and living unto righteousness. One way that we express our love for God is by living a holy life. We will be rewarded at the return of Christ. Romans 6:1-2 “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” 1 John 2 15-17 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” Hebrews 12:14 “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
We believe in divine healing for a person’s spirit, mind, and body. This healing is accomplished in the redemptive work of Christ at His death and appropriated in the believer’s life through prayer. Isaiah 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” Matthew 8:17 “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.” 1 Peter 2:24 “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” James 5:13-15 “Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”
We believe in water baptism by immersion after repenting of one’s sins and receiving Christ’s gift of salvation. Matthew 28:19 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” Mark 16:16 “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” Romans 6:4 “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
We believe in Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s suffering and death for our salvation. 1 Corinthians 11:26 “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.”
We believe the Church has a mission to evangelize all who are lost in sin. We believe “the Church” is the Body of Christ and consists of the people who, throughout time, have accepted God’s offer of redemption (regardless of religious denomination) through the sacrificial death of His son, Jesus Christ. Ephesians 1:22-23 “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.” Ephesians 2:22 “In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”
We believe that Christ will return to the earth and rapture His church. At this future moment in time, all believers who have died will rise from their graves and will meet the Lord in the air, and believers who are alive will be caught up with them, to be with the Lord forever. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” Titus 2:13 “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” We believe in the resurrection from the dead - the righteous unto eternal life and the ungodly unto eternal damnation. Daniel 12:2 “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.” John 5:28-29 “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” Revelation 20:11-15 “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
We believe marriage has only one meaning: the uniting of one biological man and one biological woman in a single, exclusive union, as directed by Scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only within the confines of marriage. Because marriage is a covenant between one man, one woman, and God, the church has the responsibility, in its sole discretion, to evaluate the readiness of those seeking to enter into the marriage covenant. The church may decline to solemnize or host a marriage ceremony that is contrary to the church’s beliefs. Genesis 1:27-28 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Genesis 2:24 “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Matthew 19:4-6 “And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” Ephesians 5:22-33 also displays excellent marriage scripture.
We believe that children are a blessing from the Lord. Thus all human life is sacred and worthy of protection from the moment of conception. Psalm 127:3 “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Psalm 139:13-15 “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.” Jeremiah 1:4-5 “Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
We believe in the importance of teaching the Bible to adults and children. Like Paul, the greatest missionary of all, we believe you must first preach (teach) the Gospel and make disciples. Secondly, you must strengthen (confirm) the believers in the things of Christ and encourage (exhort) them to become spiritual leaders. 2 Timothy 3:15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
We believe God wants us to do everything we do at the best of our ability. Giving the best of our ability at all we do honors God and inspires people. Colossians 3:23-24 “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” We believe God wants us to constantly grow spiritually. God loves us just as we are, but loves us too much to leave us that way. Followers of Jesus grow by connecting with God, His Word, and the Holy Spirit; connecting with others; and connecting others with God. 2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
We believe God created us for relationship and community. He describes the church as a body, a fellowship, and a family. As we build strong relationships with each other, we give our time, love, spiritual gifts, abilities, and finances to advance the Kingdom of God. Ephesians 2:19-22 “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”
We believe God wants us to show His Love to our community. He calls us to serve the spiritually lost, the hurting, and the poor. Matthew 28:19-20 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
LEARN ABOUT TITHING At Upper Room Worship Center, we practice tithing to financially support our church, the body of Christ—just as God commands in His Word. We give finances to advance the Kingdom of God. WHAT IS TITHING? • The word tithe literally means a tenth. • We recognize that giving 10 percent of our income is the Biblical standard of giving. We return this percentage to the Lord because it belongs to Him—and we do it with a joyful heart! • Tithing is worship to Jesus Christ. • Tithing is an expression of the relationship between the individual giver and the Lord. “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Matthew 6:21) HOW DO TITHES AND OFFERINGS DIFFER? • God’s Word generally refers to offerings as “the rest” or in addition to a tithe (10 percent). • As an example, people may feel led by the Spirit to contribute beyond their tithe by giving an offering for a missions project in our local area, our nation, or the world. WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP? • God’s Word includes hundreds of verses on finances. • The Gospels (the first four books in the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) contain warnings about finances and misuse of finances. Jesus referenced money in many of His parables; and He gave special warnings about greed. • God wants us to excel in giving. (Luke 6:38) OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS MAKE A DIFFERENCE • Upper Room Worship Center is a faith-based ministry that relies upon financial support from tithes, offerings, and donations. • We strategically invest God’s money in His storehouse to achieve Biblical values to serve the spiritually lost, the hurting, and the poor. We also invest God’s money for the growth of the ministry, understanding what is needed in furthering our abilities to serve. “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. (Malachi 3:10-11) DO YOU PRACTICE TITHING/GIVING? Have you experienced God’s blessings as a result of faithful tithing? If you are not giving 10 percent of your income to God as His Word instructs, we encourage you to begin. If you believe in this ministry, we encourage you to sow into it! Total obedience to His Word brings total blessings from God’s hand.
